Life as a Division III Athlete

When people think of college athletics, their minds often jump to nationally televised games, packed stadiums, and multimillion-dollar NIL deals. But for athletes like myself grinding at the Division III level, the experience is very different. Make no mistake—it’s just as competitive and driven by passion, but often comes with far less recognition.

Most mornings begin before sunrise, with high-intensity workouts that test both physical and mental endurance. From there, it’s off to class, balancing a full academic load, team practices, lifts, homework, and in many cases, internships. Free time is a luxury. The Division III lifestyle demands organization, resilience, and a genuine love for the game.

I didn’t choose Division III because I lacked the talent to compete elsewhere. I chose it for the balance it offers—the opportunity to play the sport I love at a high level while still prioritizing my academics and preparing for life after college. It’s a path I’ve fully embraced, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Unlike athletes in higher divisions, we don’t receive scholarship money based on our athletic performance. The only financial relief often comes from academic merit. So, why do we do it? Because we love it. We compete, train, and lead without the promise of fame or financial reward. That doesn’t make our stories any less powerful or our platforms any less valuable.

That’s why I believe in BC3 and the mission to create NIL opportunities for Division III athletes. We are authentic, community-driven, and relatable. Supporting a DIII athlete means backing someone who is deeply involved on campus, committed to excellence, and connected to the real world in ways that resonate with everyday audiences.

We may not have the national spotlight—but we have the heart, the hustle, and the ability to influence in meaningful ways. Join the BC3 community, and discover what happens when passion meets purpose.
